Concepts, not tricks
Following an explanation is only the beginning. A concept becomes useful when a student can recognize it in an unfamiliar problem and decide what to do with it.
Confidence through clarity
When a student cannot begin, we pinpoint what is missing: an idea, a connection, or a reason for choosing one approach over another. Once the difficulty becomes specific, it can be addressed.
Strength that lasts
Memorized steps are tied to familiar problems. Usable understanding travels—it helps students adapt when the question looks different and rely less on continual help.
How tutoring works
The plan begins with the student.
A conversation first
Before sessions begin, we discuss the student’s course, what has been difficult, what has already been tried, and what you hope tutoring will accomplish.
Finding the right starting point
Early lessons reveal what the student already understands and where important connections may be missing.
Continuing work
The same instructor works with the student throughout, adjusting the emphasis as the course and the student’s needs develop.
Subjects
From pre-algebra to advanced university mathematics.
Sessions can follow a school course closely or explore a subject in greater depth.
Consistent, expert instruction
One student and one instructor throughout.
Each student works with the same instructor from one session to the next. The instructor has doctoral-level training and experience teaching mathematics at university level, from foundational courses to advanced undergraduate work.
Lessons emphasize careful reasoning and independent problem solving. For students who want to go beyond their current course, sessions can also explore subjects such as multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and number theory.
